Seeding
If you have a Slippi ranking, that's your seed. Everyone else gets placed randomly.
Best of 3, then best of 5
Every set is best of 3 until top 4. From top 4 on, including grand finals, sets are best of 5.

Legal stages

Five starters are in the pool for game 1. Pokémon Stadium is a counterpick and can only be picked after game 1.

Battlefield

Three platforms. The classic.

Starter

Final Destination

No platforms. No items. Fox only... kidding.

Starter

Yoshi’s Story

Tiny stage. Watch out for Randall the cloud.

Starter

Fountain of Dreams

The side platforms move up and down.

Starter

Dreamland N64

Big and roomy. Whispy blows wind sometimes.

Starter

Pokémon Stadium

Transforms mid-match. Not available for game 1.

Counterpick

Stage striking

Standard SSBM tournament stage striking rules.

Game 1: strike 1-2-1

  1. Rock-paper-scissors. Winner chooses who strikes first.
  2. From the 5 starters: Player A strikes 1 stage, Player B strikes 2, Player A strikes 1 more.
  3. The last stage standing is where game 1 happens.

Games 2+: winner bans, loser picks

  1. The winner of the last game bans 1 stage from all six.
  2. The loser picks any remaining stage. Pokémon Stadium is fair game now.
  3. You can't pick a stage you've already won on this set.

Gentleman's clause: if both players agree, skip all of the above and play anywhere. Yes, even Hyrule Temple.

Practice

You have until September 26. Slippi is free, easy to set up, and lets you play Melee online from your computer with any controller (or keyboard, if you're crazy).
